Questions

Written by Jacob Ibrag

‘Now that you’ve been fed

and properly sheltered, you need to tell

us where you came from.’ The sheriff lowers his head

to match her eye level, ‘next town is over a hundred miles out,

and that can’t be it because they aren’t missing anyone.’ Remaining

silent, she grabs the little notepad out of the sheriffs hands and takes a

pen out of his large shirt pocket. Finishing her message, she hands it over

to him. Perplexed by the content, he shoots out of his chair, ‘what is this?

How did you-‘ She quickly stretches her right hand towards his face

and promises him that everything will be okay, ‘no more

questions, no more pain. I kept you waiting, and

soon you’ll all become part of me.’
