Insomniac

Written by Jacob Ibrag

I’m not an insomniac, and yet I can’t sleep.

Or maybe I’m dreaming of being awake. And in this

dream, all I do is think. Off switch. Try as I might, the thought

processing persists. I can’t stop over analyzing. Nonsensically being

with topics ranging from her to my lack of authenticity. Making

connections with all that was until I’m utterly exhausted

and wake. I’m not an insomniac, and yet these

dreams won’t let me sleep. Please.

  5. Lovely. I once wrote a poem with this line in it: “Why can’t I close my eyes and open them to a dream?” This reminds me of it.

  6. I can relate to this. Like seriously. Dreams leave us overwhelmed and they’re quite efficient in changing the thought process of the following day. O_0

  9. I so can relate . I blame my erratic sleep patterns on too many graveyard shifts and an over active mind or dream state . Who knows . Lovely poem

  10. Pretty normal! Happens with everybody. One has to take it easy and allow it to pass.

  12. Music sometimes soothes the savage beast of insomnia; lullabyes, like Neumi, Neumi; The Clash, “Lost in a Supermarket” (I don’t know… It worked for me).
