Wake Up

Written by Jacob Ibrag

She didn’t want to wake up. Her eyelids shut

the world outside of them. It wasn’t supposed to be

this hard, she thought. They promised opportunity,

not a rude  awakening. Maybe it was time to give up

and move back home. It was easier, it was the only

thing she knew. She imagined seeing her mom again

and holding on forever. It was safe and familiar, and

everything she hated. ‘I promised myself I’d fly out

of there and strive to be my own being.’ She wasn’t

going anywhere, she wasn’t at the very least finished.
