Please don’t tell me that things
will get better. I don’t want that.
I don’t want those lies. Crush my
spirit with the blunt side of the truth
and hold out on the poison that is hope.
Tell me that it never gets better, that
sometimes things just don’t work out.
I promise I’ll understand. I promise to
‘take it like a man.’ Spike the blade with
no remorse into my Achilles heel as I
drag my leg along with my body. I’ll
stifle my pain, I’ll bite my tongue and
face the other way. I’ll never forget
you, and with time I won’t need to.
Just another moment in a series of
unfortunate events. Years later, I’ll
reminisce and ask myself if any of
this was worth it. Not today,
not just yet.

My heart is breaking while I read this. I know what the ” blunt side of the truth” is … but I can’t seem to accept it yet. “The poison of hope” – so apt … “I’ll never forget you, and with time won’t need to.”Comforting.
Wonderful poem. Thank you.
