Reminded

Written by Jacob Ibrag

The other day I saw this couple

who reminded me of who we

used to be. Care free of the real

world and blind to the fact that

love isn’t the end all be all that

we’re grown to believe. It was

clear as day, the countdown to

their very own doomsday. The

day they’ll realize that there’s

more than goodnight kisses and

shared stares into a sunset. Part of

me hopes I’m wrong  about these

two, that they’ll always look at

each other the way we use to.

The other part knows too much

as it drowned long ago in a

river of cynicism.

Not all of us fall into doomsday as we age. I have seen it happen, but in ours, we are still as much in love as we were back then. Your poem speaks to the pain that many do suffer.

I think that at a certain point a couple knows whether or not they’ll last based on their shared goals in life. This fictitious couple is passionate except they lack the desire to calibrate into each others big picture. It happens to the best of us unfortunately, we get so entangled in the moment that we forget about the ingredients we seek.
