Last night before I left, you blocked the doorway

and wanted to know how I felt about the man that

had asked for your hand in marriage. Still taken

back by the news, I tried to gather myself and told

you that I thought he was a good guy. How could

have I said anything else? He’s exactly the type of

man that you pictured yourself with since we were

kids; a generic model that walked straight out of a

magazine. I hate that you asked me to lie because

deep within yourself, I’m sure you know how I truly

feel. I might not carry wealth or much confidence,

but I know that he’ll never make you smile the way

I do when you’re having a hard day. Wish I could

spill the insides of my mind into your eyes just so you

could see who we could’ve been. I won’t though,

because I want you to be happy. Because I refuse to

be selfish. Because I love you, and I always will. You’re

staring at me right now, waiting for me to answer

whether or not I could walk  you down the aisle, to

deliver you to your forever, ‘for you, I will.’
