What Ifs

Written by Jacob Ibrag

Themed restaurant. Yelp approved. Live band.

Friends. Chatter. Lots of chatter, much about nothing.

Laughter. Waitress wants our order. I want her name.

Her eyes carry an untold story. I need to know it. She’s

so elusive, doing her job. Excelling. It’s not enough.

Curiosity eating me alive. Get up. Walk to her while she

processes credit cards. ‘Hi. There’s something about you.

Let’s meet some other time. I swear it’s not just another

pick up line.’ Silence. Flattered. The thing is, ‘I, I have a

girlfriend. Want to say yes. You’ve just made my night

with that compliment.’ No regrets. Taken away by her

smile. No what ifs, they don’t exist. I hope she reads this.
