Ashes

Written by Jacob Ibrag

I love it when the blunt edge of your words

pummels me into the dirt. At first you’re the poster

child of human perfection, polite and drenched in

political correctness, till I willfully flip your switch of

emotional tolerance. ‘Torch my skin with your burning

tongue, don’t dare hold back or I swear I’ll push you

harder.’ I’ll crack the first real smile in our sham of a

relationship as you’ll scar your vocals with delicious

screams about how unhinged I am. ‘I have to be,’ I

explain. Happily ever after is a scam, they never tell

you how it ends, so I need to be the balance. I need

to be the reminder, it’s the only way we’ll come out

alive,  ‘Ashes, ashes. We all fall down.’
