Married

Written by Jacob Ibrag

She didn’t even trade up.  No,

she just traded. She got tired of

waiting, waiting for him to change.

Love used to be the magic that

delayed away the pain. Inevitable,

her heart faded away. No one was

enough. Married to the ache.

That was wonderfully profound…should be required reading in every marriage counselor’s office.

You do choose your words well.
It does hurt all the time.
    Why call it marriage ?
Is that what love is supposed to do ?
    Ache …..?

Love is beautiful, it’s just that sometimes people aren’t ready accept the full power of it. And sometimes people think that love is the end all be all to everything, and unfortunately it isn’t. It isn’t a fairy tale and the happy ending doesn’t near the moment your realize you love another person. It takes work to keep the flame burning. If you don’t do anything, the love turns into ache. That’s usually the case for divorce, people become married to the ache.

    reading your words
was like looking in the mirror
    of yesteryear …
    the waiting, the aching.
but one day, some time ago,
    i heard myself say
i’ll miss him when he’s gone
words of my mother, long gone,
    and I do miss her
so i needed to accept, grow into
myself, the one who’ll be with me
    until I die … meantime
    he’s ok, to be appreciated
    for the good points,
    and, until we part,
the other bod in the house.
    We have learned
    to be kind
    to each other.

In so few words you captured what happens to too many of us. I understand the “ache.” Excellent job.
