“What is family? They were the people who claimed

you. In good, in bad, in parts or in whole, they were the

ones who showed up, who stayed in there, regardless. It

wasn’t just about blood relations or shared chromosomes,

but something wider, bigger. We had many families over

time. Our family of origin, the family we created, and the

groups you moved through while all of this was happening:

friends, lovers, sometimes even strangers. None of them

perfect, and we couldn’t expect them to be. You can’t make

any one person your world. The trick was to take what

each could give you and build your world from it.”

  1. All those who love you unconditionally are family. Family can also hurt you more than your neighbor ever can…..Love and hurt are two faces of the same unit …called family. The cell , the smallest unit of the larger society is family. Thanks for reminding …..that we all love some people unconditionally , so they can not lose us by hurting us…..

  2. Ah, family. Has anything about life been more a two-edged sword? I am still feeling the glow of introducing my biological daughter to cousins I hadn’t seen in too many years, and of meeting my biological grandchildren.

I’m also lucky that everything turned out so well. The other side of family, now? No one can screw you over better than your own—they know you better!
